Trump’s nominee for SEC Chairman Paul Atkins will be heard by the Senate next week

On March 21, Paul Atkins, the nominee for the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will attend the Senate Banking Committee confirmation hearing on March 27. If approved, the full Senate will hold a final vote. Atkins, a former SEC commissioner and a supporter of digital assets, previously founded a financial compliance consulting firm in Washington. He is expected to continue the pro-crypto regulatory stance promoted by the Trump administration and succeed former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, who has been criticized for his “enforcement-style regulation” of the crypto industry.

Also hearing on the same day was Jonathan Gould, the nominee for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which is responsible for supervising U.S. national banks and is crucial to crypto companies’ efforts to gain bank access and regulate the issuance of stablecoins. In addition, the Senate will also consider Luke Pettit’s nomination as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
