Vitalik commented on Soneium’s blacklisting of some Meme coins: This is the on-chain rule set by the enterprise-level L2

On January 16, Vitalik commented on Soneium’s blacklisting of some Meme coins on his social platform, saying that Soneium’s situation vividly shows how launching Ethereum L2 is beneficial to enterprises and users. Enterprises can make very detailed choices about how much control to retain and give to users. But no matter what rules they choose, that’s the rules. Everything is on-chain, transparent, and auditable by third parties.

Developers can also create a system that lets users know that they can send transactions on L2 when they need to, but there is a big obstacle – the sorter can restrict but not censor. This is actually what Sony did. This is all about the free market. As an ecosystem, it is important to ensure that:

  1. A large amount of financial activity occurs in a completely open environment; 2. There are enough tools for users to understand the properties of the on-chain environment they are in.

Earlier news, Sony’s Layer2 project Soneium blacklisted some Meme coins suspected of intellectual property infringement on the mainnet launch day, which caused controversy. As a result, some tokens are restricted and cannot be traded or supported on official block explorers.
